Jewish-Christian Relations through the Ages

An introduction to the history of Jewish-Christian relations from the first century of the Common Era through the present. The course focuses both on the history of interactions between Jews and  Christians – persecutions, collaborations, conversions, etc. – and also on the history of theological stances and popular attitudes. The aims of the course are three-fold: first, to acquaint with the general outlines of the history of Jewish-Christian relations; second, to hone some of the skills of the historian (especially the critical analysis of primary sources); and third, to grapple with questions that confront Jews and Christians in the present, questions about history, memory, theological differences, and the potential for dialogue.
