I was five when I first saw Charlton Heston as Moses in “The Ten Commandments.” To say I was greatly impressed is to say nearly nothing. But one thing in particular stood out for me, and that was the actual writing on the two tablets of stone. It just didn’t look like any language I had ever seen. Biblical archaeology investigates the flesh-and-blood world in which Ancient Israelites lived along with their Canaanite, Egyptian, Moabite, Philistine, and many other neighbors. This course follows the guiding theme of ‘what do we know and how do we know it. Is a story true or not?
